Format Floppy And Disk Copy

Formatting A Floppy For The Linux file system:

To take advantage of the Linux file system and it's file ownership and permissions, open a console and with a floppy in the drive and type:

mke2fs /dev/fd0

 Disk Copy:

To make an exact copy of a floppy disk, do not format the disk. Put the disk to be copied in the floppy drive and issue the following commands as root from a console:

cd /tmp

Once that finishes, it will have written an image of the floppy to the file called floppy.image. Now, put in the diskette to which you want to write and issue the following command:

dd if=floppy.image of=/dev/fd0 bs=1k

To delete the floppy image:

rm -f floppy.image
